What custom software is, and how it differs from off-the-shelf software.
Custom software — or bespoke software — is an application built for one company's processes, rather than an off-the-shelf or subscription (SaaS) product designed for many. It's also called custom application development.
Neither is better nor worse; the difference is who adapts to whom. Off-the-shelf software asks you to work its way; a bespoke build is shaped around your process.
When custom software is worth it. And when it isn't.
When it makes sense.
When we'd advise against it.
- An off-the-shelf tool already covers your process. A well-implemented ERP or CRM is usually the better option. We'll say so and, if you like, implement it.
- You're not yet clear on what you want to solve. Building on something unclear means building twice. Start with a discovery, or with IT consultancy.
- You need a fixed quote this week, with no conversation first. Our first deliverable is a 30-minute conversation; without it, we're not the right fit.
- Nobody will run the system after handover. Software without an owner decays. Your team takes it on, with our training, or we run it under an SLA.
- You're looking for the lowest price. We don't compete on price when that means lowering the quality of the team or the result. We'll tell you who to call instead.
If it doesn't fit, that's fine: see what we don't do.
Tell us what you're facing and we'll say whether it fits →What we build. Bespoke applications, integrations and modernisation.
Backend, frontend and mobile, with maintainable code.
For customers, suppliers or your team. No per-user licences.
Connecting ERP, CRM and data without tight coupling. Sometimes that's all you need.
RPA, workflows and scripts: removing the repeated task, not adding another tool.
In a real process, not a PoC — only when it adds measurable value.
Incremental refactor, no big bang.
All of it sits within the Build pillar.
How we work. Discovery before proposing.
We don't work without a discovery phase. It wraps in 3–5 weeks, depending on team size and what's already documented.
A small, senior team, alongside yours — not instead of it.
Define
Minimum scope, success criteria, honest timelines.
Iterate
Sprints with visible delivery and feedback. If something drifts, you know early.
Validate
Automated tests, metrics and validation with your users before production.
Ship
Deployment, training and useful documentation.
What you get at the end. And what happens next.
What you get.
Source code, documentation and access credentials stay with you.
Quality before production, not after.
How it works and how it's deployed, in plain language.
Risks in plain sight, no black boxes.
We transfer knowledge; the goal is autonomy.
For whoever runs it: your team or ours.
After go-live.
You're not left on your own. We choose one of three paths with you: your team runs it, with the handover training and documentation; you keep us on for evolutive maintenance; or we run it under continuous support with SLAs. If something breaks, it's our problem too.
Custom or off-the-shelf. How we decide with you.
We decide with your process in front of us, not a catalogue. We also implement platforms, so we gain nothing by recommending a build that isn't worth it.
| Criterion | Custom | Off-the-shelf / SaaS |
|---|---|---|
| Fit with your process | High — built around it | Depends — you adapt to the product |
| Time to first use | Longer — discovery and milestones | Short — implement and configure |
| Upfront and recurring cost | Higher at first — no per-user licences | Lower at first — recurring licences |
| Supplier lock-in | Low — the code, the documentation and the access credentials stay with you | High — changes when the product changes |
| It evolves when… | Your business changes | The product changes |
How much custom software costs and how we charge.
It depends on three things: which processes it covers, which systems it has to talk to, and who runs it afterwards. We don't quote figures before discovery; they'd be made up.
Three ways to charge. By milestones: scope is closed in phases and you pay per delivery. T&M with a cap: scope evolves under an agreed ceiling. Team capacity: a monthly allocation. We choose with you.
After discovery you have scope, timelines and a cost range to decide with.
Discovery can be contracted on its own. If you'd rather stop there, the result is yours: you can take it to your own team or to another supplier. It doesn't commit you to carrying on with us.

Frequently asked questions about bespoke development.
How long does custom software development take?
We give you a timeline once we know the scope, not before. Discovery wraps in 3–5 weeks; then milestones with visible delivery every sprint.
Can you work on our old system, or does it have to be rebuilt?
Rebuilding everything is rarely necessary. First we understand how it works today and what depends on it; then it's modernised in stages, without stopping the business.
Do you work alongside our team, or with our current supplier?
Alongside your team, and with your current supplier if there is one: we split the work by area and document the decisions. The knowledge stays in your company.
Do you integrate AI into custom software?
Yes, when it adds value in a real process, with concrete data and a measurable cost. If it doesn't, we'll say so.
Do you work with companies outside Spain, and in English?
Yes, in English and Spanish. Remotely anywhere in Spain and Europe; in person across the Madrid region and Castilla-La Mancha.
Who owns the code when the project ends?
You do. At the end you keep the source code, the documentation and the access credentials, so carrying on with your own team or another supplier doesn't depend on us.
How do we start, and what do we need to prepare?
Nothing. Write to us in plain language about what you're trying to solve. A senior engineer replies, not a salesperson. Within 48 working hours we say whether we can help, or who to call; then a 30-minute conversation, no commitment.
You can contract the discovery on its own: if you then decide to stop, you keep the scope, the timelines and the cost range, with no obligation to carry on.
Shall we talk about your project?
We respond in under 48 working hours. No sales pitch, with judgement.
